Why can’t salesperson just be honest to their client?

Frankly speaking, before joining the industry, I have had high expectations for the real estate career. After all, this is a career with unlimited income potential (Obviously this is one of the main reasons of joining).


Moreover, the transaction involves the most important, highest-priced decision in most people’s lives, so I humbly consider it an honour to be a part of the industry, and it's something in my life that I take pride in achieving.

After officially setting foot into the industry, I was surprised to learn the real estate market in Singapore was full of chaos.


Most property agents took advantage of information asymmetry and used various sales tactics to mislead the consumers just to earn commission. This is completely incompatible with my ideal reality. What is going on? Why does salesperson have to rely on lies and heresy to do business? It puzzles me.

As the above proverb says, when we ourselves are buying something, we detest the salesperson who deliberately conceal facts and dislike hard sales by all sort of sales pitch, right? I too, want direct answer. But why does salespersons face their clients, have to rely on sugarcoating and various sales tactics to earn deals?

At the beginning phase of my career, I was also educated in this manner by the veterans. They would say, 'Why bother talking about things that do not benefit us salesperson? Do you think clients will show appreciation for it? It is better to adopt a “get it done and move on” mindset, secure the agreement first, get the cheque first, earn the commission first, and nothing else matters!'

A client of mine once confided about his past terrible experience in buying a resale unit. The whole encounter was filled with negative emotions because the agent failed to provide accurate information during the buying process, was anxious about closing, and constantly putting pressure for the closure of the deal. Eventually leading to his realization of having overpaid for the property after the purchase, by then it was already too late.

As a result, it triggered a series of subsequent issues that not only became difficult to handle but also posted significant challenges for his future exit plan, make him further away from his journey to 7-Figure Net Worth. This story alongside my past experiences reaffirmed my conviction to serve with integrity, honesty, and transparency because nobody wishes to become the sacrificial lamb, do you?

I vow to run my career in the most honest and genuine manner, treating every client who walks in with heartfelt sincerity.
